K. marxianus CICC 1727-5 is a promising candidate strain for further metabolic engineering to develop robust industrial strains for the lignocellulosic ethanol. Kluyveromyces marxianus is a thermotolerant yeast that has been explored for potential use in biotechnological applications, such as production of biofuels, single-cell proteins, enzymes, and other heterologous proteins. Here, we present the high-quality draft of the 10.9-Mb genome of K. marxianus var. marxianus KCTC 17555 (= CBS 6556 = ATCC 26548). The yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus has been pointed out as a promising microorganism for a variety of industrial bioprocesses. Although genetic tools have been developed for this yeast and different potential applications have been investigated, quantitative physiological studies have rarely been reported.

Kluyveromyces marxianus is a homothallic, hemiascomycete yeast commonly isolated in dairy products and fruits. It belongs to the Saccharomycetaceae family and is phylogenetically related to S. cerevisiae with many superior traits. Furthermore, K. marxianus B0399 impacted the colonic microbiota, increasing the bifidobacterial concentration in the stages of the colonic model system simulating the proximal and transverse colon. K. marxianus in the source strain databases so the main purpose was to confirm that no strain was in fact the close relative Kluyveromyces lactis. The sequence data was compared to references in databanks (CBS, NCYC, Genbank, NCBI) to confirm the identity of the 13 strains and their classification as K. marxianus (Supplementary Fig. 1). K. marxianus is also used to produce the industrial enzymes: inulinase, β-galactosidase, and pectinase. [5] Due to the heat tolerance of K. marxianus, high heat fermentations are feasible, reducing the costs normally expended for cooling as well as the potential for contamination by other fungi or bacteria.

Background Kluyveromyces marxianus combines the ease of genetic manipulation and fermentation with the ability to efficiently secrete high molecular weight proteins, performing eukaryotic post-translational modifications. It is able to grow efficiently in a wide range of temperatures. The secretion performances were analyzed in the host K. marxianus L3 in the range between 5°C and 40°C by K. marxianus is also used to produce the industrial enzymes: inulinase, β-galactosidase, and pectinase. [5] Due to the heat tolerance of K. marxianus , high heat fermentations are feasible, reducing the costs normally expended for cooling as well as the potential for contamination by other fungi or bacteria.

secretion of lytic enzymes) have led to multiple applications in biotechnology, for example, production of bioingredients and aroma compounds, ethanol by K. marxianus exhibits a distinct thermal tolerance which allows cultiva-tion at an elevated temperature [14,19,20] which in turn accelerates the ester stripping and advances its process-integrated recovery. The outstanding capability of K. marxianus for lactose utilization offers the chance for using whey as a resource of ester synthesis. K As mentioned in the previous sections, K. marxianus is a well-known budding yeast, which has potential for production of bioethanol, hydrolytic enzymes, food biomass, and food additives [29, 31, 124]. K. marxianus DMKU 3-1042 is a thermotolerant yeast from Thailand and efficiently produces ethanol at high temperatures . Den produceras som en näringsjäst och bindemedel till djurfoder, och Generally, K. marxianus is a Crabtree-negative species; in recent years, strains of this yeast, such as K. marxianus CBS 6556, have been used for the production of SCP from whey concentrates; such strain avoids the production of ethanol by the Crabtree effect due to the high amount of lactose in whey concentrates. K. marxianus is a respiro-fermentative yeast likely to produce energy by either respiration or fermentation pathways.
